Introducing: Veja

Wednesday, May 25th, 2016

Over the last couple of years, the rise of sneakers as a fashion must-have has been a welcomed trend by women around the world. Ahead of the trend came Veja, a French-Brazilian footwear brand launched in 2004. The company prides itself on its ethical approach to everything it does. All of its shoes are entirely sustainable, made of organic cotton, wild rubber and vegetable-tanned leather. Veja is committed to fair trade. All shoes are produced locally in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest and constructed in a socially conscious factory in the southern region of the country. On top of all that, Veja shoes are incredibly comfortable, versatile, and so cute!

The fun video below helps show how Veja shoes are produced. And check out this recent endorsement from Who What Wear and information captured on the brand in the London Fashion Week listing.

Trend we love: Cropped Wide Leg Jeans

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015

Wide leg cropped jeans (culottes) are back. Everywhere from fashion week in London and Paris to the streets of Los Angeles and Boston, the trend is making its mark in a big way. This spring, we introduced the Phoebe jeans by MiH Jeans (now sold out) at Dress, a wide leg cropped style with a large cuff. For fall, we love the simple and cool Maverick jeans by Mother Denim that are made in an ultra soft denim and feature a flattering high rise.

Last week, The Zoe Report featured the Maverick jeans in a feature titled What French Girls Are Actually Wearing — the Mavericks made the list of 9 essentials that comprise a perfect French girl look. And in April, Vogue wrote about how to wear the trend, in a piece called “How to Wear Spring’s Trickiest Trend.

As seen below, fashionable women around the world are embracing the trend — think Jenna Lyons, the Man Repeller, and just about every noteworthy fashion blogger out there — both in warm weather and cool. Wear now with a t-shirt and pointy toe flats or wedges, and later this fall and winter with a sweater, long coat and high heels or tall boots.

Click here to shop the Mother Denim Maverick Jeans in Satisfaction wash (below) that recently arrived at Dress.

Introducing #BOSSLADIES by Robin Anderson

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

Name:  Robin Anderson
Profession:  Blogger, Tote Bag Designer, and Interior Designer

Robin Anderson told us that her Diary of a Yummy Mummy blog started as a joke. It was early 2008. She had had her first son and decided to leave her job as an attorney. With pent up creativity, a new life as a stay at home mom, a love of fashion and interior design, and a talent for storytelling, Robin started to play around with a blog — then, a new form of editorial that really anyone with a computer could create. What she thought would be a fun outlet for chronicling her experiences and interests turned out to be so much more. As Robin shared more and more, interest from others fueled her and before long she had a really popular blog!

Seven years later Robin’s blog continues to thrive. It has led her down a path she could have never imagined when she started. After posting photos of the redesign of her own Cambridge home where she infused an elegant California-cool vibe complete with surf art and skateboards on the walls (the redesign helped land her on the cover of Rue Magazine) followers started reaching out to her for design advice. One project turned into two. Then three and so on. Today Robin works as an interior designer offering traditional services as well as e-design services, a budget-friendly way for clients to access her design expertise.

This year Robin took another leap into unchartered waters. Partnered with a friend whom she has known since college, Robin launched #BOSSLADIES, a series of tote bags featuring admirable female bosses. The idea for the line came from two places. First, she loves tote bags. She brings them everywhere she goes. Second, when she would feel extra confident in an outfit she put together, she and a friend would refer to it as a boss lady outfit — an outfit they could run the world in. “This is a total boss lady outfit,” they would say to one another. Thus, #BOSSLADIES tote bags came to be. The first in the series was Jenna Lyons, the iconic J. Crew CEO who sports glasses similar to those Robin wears. The tote asks, “What would Jenna Lyons do?” Next up is (of course) is Ruth Bader Ginsburg. And with Hillary Clinton now officially on the ballot… well, you know.

We are excited to see where Robin will go next. For now, we carry our #BOSSLADIES tote bags and think to ourselves, “What would Robin do?”

Spring Photo Shoot with the Talented Tamar Frieze

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015

Boston-based event planner and blogger Tamar Frieze has been shopping at Dress since circa 2007. Over the years, we saw her get married, launch her very successful event planning business Salter Frieze Weddings & Events, have her first daughter and then twin daughters, and launch her hugely popular blog, Merit, where she writes about a whole host of topics, from music to children, fashion to health, and of course, events and weddings. She often signs off with: “Merit is always authentic, and about what I genuinely love and think is worthy enough to share with all of you.”

When Tamar suggested featuring Dress in an upcoming Merit post, we were beyond flattered because not only is Tamar savvy, chic, and inspirational (to which her large base of Merit followers can attest), she also happens to be beautiful with an amazing sense of style and a model-like figure for clothes. To top it all off, Tamar asked her good friend Savanna Jabro, a fellow mom of three who is equally as savvy and chic, to join her for the photo shoot (shot by the very talented Melissa Mahoney), which took place at a friend’s gorgeous loft home in Back Bay.

About a week ahead of the photo shoot, Tamar and Savanna came by Dress and picked out a dozen or so items they wanted to feature. Not entirely surprising, the pair ended up featuring items that they had already purchased for themselves over the last couple of months. So the clothes, jewelry, and accessories featured are authentically Tamar’s and Savanna’s personal style. The funny part is that the two, who rarely come into Dress together, happen to own many items in common. So that became one aspect of the shoot: one item, two ways (Tamar’s version and Savanna’s version).

We absolutely love how the shoot came out! Tamar, Savanna, the clothes and accessories, the location — everything! — looks gorgeous! Below are Tamar’s final selections (of 400+ original shots) that, after much review and her discerning eye, she deemed worthy of Merit.
